“There are only three possibilities. Either your sister is telling lies, or she is mad, or she is telling the truth. You know she doesn’t tell lies and it is obvious that she is not mad. For the moment then and unless any further evidence turns up, we must assume that she is telling the truth.’” (source)

“‘Safe?’ said Mr. Beaver; ‘don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ’Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.’” (source)

“only in their own minds, yet they are in that prison; and so afraid of being taken in that they cannot be taken out” (source)

“What defenses do you put up against things in your life that might do you good?” (source)

“until you saw the Singer himself, and then you forgot everything else.” (source)

Lewis combines a novelist’s insights into motives with a profound religious understanding.
