Overview

Reading through the Bible is a tremendous asset to one’s spiritual walk, but without some guidance it can be a difficult and confusing task. Richard M. Gagnon provides a helping hand with Footsteps Through The Bible, a one-year chronological reading plan and study reference born out of his own desire to better understand the Scriptures.

Footsteps is easy to use on a daily basis, and helps the reader move through the Bible in a systematic, chronological sequence. Not to be confused with a chronological Bible, this chronological reading guide allows the reader to use his or her favorite Bible version to complete the reading assignments.

  • Each day's readings contain easy-to-understand outline notes for that day.
  • The readings Monday to Friday are from the Old Testament and average 86 verses per day. The weekend readings are from the New Testament and average 77 verses per day.
  • Daily and weekly readings are logically grouped, listing all Scripture pertinent to the theme, topic or historical sequence of events.
  • Old Testament laws and regulations are harmonized by subject matter and logically grouped with the historical events they complement.
  • The parallel books of Kings and Chronicles are synchronized into one reading, as are the Gospels in the New Testament.

Many users of Logos Bible Software have asked for a reading plan that walks through the Bible chronologically. Footsteps meets that need and provides a great springboard for further study. When you click on the day's reading your preferred Bible (sold separately) will open to the desired passage--no shuffling pages and hunting for the right verse. From there you can use the outline notes provided or dive in deeper using additional tools and texts you may have in your digital library.

Top Highlights

“It must be remembered that chronology was of secondary importance to the writers of Scripture, hence, the historical accounts written were concerned more with relationships and spiritual matters than with historical accuracy. Israel and Judah did not even use the same systems for counting the first year of a king’s reign, nor did they use the same calendars, with Israel’s new year starting in the spring (Nisan) and Judah’s in the fall (Tishri).” (Page 12)

“Worship, prayer, and the word of God. These are the keys to a holy, fruitful and victorious life in Christ Jesus. Each of them must be an integral part of our daily lives. God speaks to us through his word, the Holy Bible. It teaches us how to have a relationship with God through Jesus, and how to worship, pray and live righteously before God. It is our spiritual milk and our spiritual meat. Without regular Bible reading our life is barren. We cannot grow in holiness. And we cannot serve God or one another acceptably.” (Page 10)

“Remember, it’s regular daily reading, meditation and study that are important, and the blessing and growth that come from continual immersion in and obedience to the Word of God.” (Page 16)

“A cross (†) symbol is used to mark Old Testament verses that are identical or virtually identical to verses you have already read or are about to read.” (Page 16)

“the relative dating and chronological order of most Scripture is generally agreed upon” (Page 13)

This is a good resource that has a lot of effort into it. I am halfway through the year's reading plan and am enjoying it; however, it still has many typos which is a frustration. I also have troubles syncing the passages on my ipad or iPhone from time to time.

The plan is not that clear and contains some errors: 1) For instance, a reading "15:8-16" sometimes means "15:8-15:16" and at other times "15-8 to end of chapter 16". 2) There are some Bible passages that are not included. For instance, I believe the passage Jeremiah 6:2 to 7-29 is not part of the plan.

It isn't that I don't like the content. It sounds very good, but it really isn't useful without integration.

This new Logos Resource has superior features to any of the current Daily Bible Reading Plans offered by Logos, although I have used some of the special celebration theme ones, which I appreciate. Read about these great beneficial features in the author's Introduction to the book at https://www.logos.com/product/10369/footsteps-through-the-bible-a-52-week-chronological-reading-plan-and-study-reference. Now, this Resource needs to be turned into an activated Daily Reading Plan for Logos 5 with the ability to post on our Home Pages and check off as we read. I hope some talented Logos customer will take up the project or that Logos will respond to my suggestion to add the most valuable Logos 5 features to a fine Plan.

Nice compilation of various text references by event date across passages in a clear table. I was hoping for a stronger tie to Logos much like the built-in read through the Bible in a year that is accessible on the Logos home page. That year plan looks to be a straight through reading but it is nicely integrated with Logos. For a product that is billed with language like "users of Logos Bible Software have asked for a reading plan .... Footsteps meets that need", I was disappointed that this is basically a standalone product that is only tied in with Logos through scripture references like any other Logos product. Seems like it would be easy for Logos to make this an option on their home page reading plan.
