In this volume, Warren Carter reviews selected historical, source, and redaction critical studies by biblical scholars on the Sermon on the Mount—as well as the ethical reflections from the 1960s to the 1990s. He begins with the sources of the sermon, discusses its structure, and analyzes the content of the sermon and the Lord’s Prayer. Then Carter considers the ethical claims of the sermon, especially looking at issues of interpreting the sermon for contemporary faith communities.
