Overview

Yves Congar was one of the most influential theologians of Vatican II. His writings are characterized by the urgent call for reform in a changing world and a sense that the Church is not sectarian, but lives and thinks “according to the whole”.

In Faithful to the Future Brother Émile of Taizé explores the four prominent themes in Congar’s writings: tradition, reform, catholicity, and authority. Congar, a Dominican friar who eventually became a cardinal, examines the true nature of Christian tradition—inseparable from creativity and reform—showing that the Church is not a “system”. As a student of his thought, Brother Émile presents a volume that helps connect faithful Catholics to the past and to the future.
