“It is interesting to note that until modern times there was no obvious reason to believe that there was a special atmosphere around the Earth. This is because the Earth’s atmosphere is invisible when looking from the surface of the Earth. Only in modern times have observations from space shown that there is a very distinct atmosphere that clings to the Earth.
