Overview

As an ex-Anglican minister and the founder of the Plymouth Brethren, Darby's influence started the Niagara Conferences, which were the beginnings of prophetically-oriented Bible conferences in America. First published in 1890, this translation comes after Darby's understanding of the original languages matured during the writing of his French and German translations of the Bible.

Most Highlighted Verses in 1890 Darby Bible

Exodus 22:19: —Every one that lieth with a beast shall certainly be put to death.

Proverbs 3:3–6: Let not loving-kindness and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thy heart: and thou shalt find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Confide in Jehovah with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own intelligence;

Isaiah 9:6–7: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name is called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty •God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with judgment and with righteousness, from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

Isaiah 40:28–31: Dost thou not know, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not nor tireth? There is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and shall tire, and the young men shall stumble and fall;

Romans 12:1–2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the compassions of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your intelligent service. And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Ephesians 2:4–10: but God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love wherewith he loved us, (we too being dead in offences,) has quickened us with the Christ, (ye are saved by grace,) and has raised us up together, and has made us sit down together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,

Hebrews 11:1: Now faith is the substantiating of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:6: But without faith it is impossible to please him. For he that draws near to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them who seek him out.

James 1:13–18: Let no man, being tempted, say, I am tempted of God. For God cannot be tempted by evil things, and himself tempts no one. But every one is tempted, drawn away, and enticed by his own lust; then lust, having conceived, gives birth to sin; but sin fully completed brings forth death.

Revelation 2:12–13: And to the angel of the assembly in Pergamos write: These things says he that has the sharp two-edged sword: I know where thou dwellest, where the throne of Satan is; and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in the days in which Antipas my faithful witness was, who was slain among you, where Satan dwells.

    I am happy to have this Bible in my collection; I refer to it occasionally, and it's a blessing that I can do that without having to find it somewhere buried in a pile of heavy hardback books. I was converted through the ministry of a Brethren missionary and so this Bible is important to me, and will always be there for comparison with other translations.
