Overview

Here is a commentary for those who would like to read and enjoy the book of Daniel. The symbolism and apparently mysterious passages in the book have discouraged many from giving it serious study. But Stuart Olyott, in his lively yet thorough style, shows that the prophecy of Daniel is basically an easy book to understand. His aim is to excite readers to read Daniel for themselves.

The book of Daniel is full of practical help—especially for believers who find themselves standing alone in the classroom or at work, or among their family and friends. Daniel tells us how to remain true to God in a hostile environment, and shows us how to live for him when everything is against us. Daniel dared to stand alone. So can we.

Top Highlights

“Daniel was a great prophet and had had many remarkable visions and revelations, but he never outgrew the need to read his Bible. His example is worth noting.” (Page 116)

“We underline it again. His secret was too simple to miss: he read his Bible and said his prayers.” (Page 15)

“It shows us what are the only weapons appropriate for the conflict in which we are engaged.” (Page 138)

“This chapter shows us who are the real enemies of the work of God” (Page 136)

“The lesson is that nobody loses out by refusing to compromise.” (Page 22)

Dare to Stand Alone is a masterpiece of clear, helpful applied writing which causes the book of Daniel to be living and relevant, not only in its exciting narrative sections, but in its highly symbolic sections also.

Loved the commentary. Used it to preach trough the book of Daniel and the commentary was insightful, practical and down to earth. From the response of the church i know that they really benefited from what was preached and i recommend this book and author. I plan on buying other books in this series and i hope that the other authors match the commentary quality of Stuart Olyott.
