Herschel Hobbs Commentary: Bible Studies for Life, Winter 2014-15

This quarter’s Study Themes are:Storm Shelter: Psalms of God’s Embrace – Have you ever been caught by surprise in a rain storm or shower? With no umbrella handy, we naturally look for some type of shelter: our car, a building, or any type of overhang that keeps the rain off of us. Life catches us by surprise too, and we immediately look for something to shelter us from the problem or uncertainty. The world can offer a variety of shelters, but they ultimately all leak. Through the Book of Psalms, we can discover that God is the only One who can truly shelter us. These six sessions on the psalms, “Storm Shelter: Psalms of God’s Embrace,” show us that, when we place ourselves in God’s loving embrace, we can experience shelter in the midst of any downpour. Ready: Ministering Life to Those in Crisis – Few people are prepared for crises or hard times. Some crises come out of the blue, and others can be seen coming a long way off. Awareness of the pending crisis does not change the helplessness people can feel. The value of this six-session study is that it equips believers to be ready to minister. Sometimes we can step into a crisis and readily fix it, but a lot of crises are here for the long haul. The Bible offers us guidance in how we can love, support, and minister to persons in crisis. The Herschel Hobbs Commentary is designed for group leaders and group members who desire a more extensive exposition of the Bible passages in LifeWay’s Bible Study for Life series. Based on the King James Version of the Bible, The Herschel Hobbs Commentary can be used with all major modern English translations.
