Perspectives from Church History

Written as a basic introduction to the subject, Perspectives from Church History covers the four major periods from the Day of Pentecost to the present: The Ancient Church, The Medieval Church, The Reformation Church and the Modern Church. It is designed to provide Christians with an overview of their spiritual heritage. As the titles implies, a study of church history provides a sense of perspective. It is both comforting and challenging to discover that many current issues are not new ones at all. Secondly, a study of church history gives an accurate understanding of the complexities and richness of Christianity. Finally, church history reinforces the Christian conviction that the church will triumph! About the Author Dr. James P. Eckman is the Academic Vice-President, Dean, and Professor of Bible and History at Grace University, Omaha, Nebraska. He holds the B.S. from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, the M.A. from Lehigh University, the Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary; and the Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska. While at Dallas Theological Seminary, he received the Charles A. Nash Award in Historical Theology. An ordained minister, Dr. Eckman's specialty is in historical theology, with an emphasis on the American church and revivalism. In addition to hosting a weekly radio program, “Issues in Perspective,” he also performs dramatic monologues on figures from church history such as Augustine, Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Jonathan Edwards. He is married and the father of two children.
