Overview

Throughout church history, the faithful ministries of Christian leaders—though full of struggle, sin, and weakness—have magnified the worth and majesty of God. Their lives and teachings are still profoundly relevant. Their voices live on in the stories we read and tell today.

In this book, John Piper celebrates the lives of 27 such leaders from church history, offering a close look at their perseverance amidst opposition, weakness, and suffering. Let the resilience of these faithful but flawed saints inspire you toward a life of Christ-exalting courage, passion, and joy.

While this is not an easy read, John Piper uncovers some powerful lessons from these past giants of the faith. I was encouraged to learn that each of these giants had flaws and struggles. They were imperfect vessels and yet God's grace was made strong in their weakness. I recommend the book. A pdf version of the book is available as a free download on John Piper's website, Desiring God.

I am continuously bewildered by the choice to make 1,000 page books "reader editions." I understand that from a marketing perspective, this allows logos to add books to their collection quicker. However, I fear this is at the expense of the best part of logos. These books will be nice additions, if I have extra money to spend, but they are often cheaper to buy elsewhere and the incentive to spend more for the logos edition has vanished. Unless there is something that I am not getting, this seems to be a mistake by logos. I'd much rather wait and have an edition that benefits from logos power. I have raised this concern in the past with other titles and have yet to hear any responses from logos.
