Overview

The Liturgy and the Word of God explores the historical liturgy, sacraments, and public prayers of the Catholic Church in the years immediately prior to the Second Vatican Council. Containing essays written by leading European Catholic theologians of the twentieth century, including Hans Urs von Balthasar and Jean Daniélou, this classic text is essential reading for understanding the Mass both before and after Vatican II. Many of these writings are required reading in the classroom today, as they give key theological insights to the liturgy of the Catholic Church and its fundamental relationship with the unchanging Word of God.

In Logos, these essays become fully searchable, allowing you to quickly find your topics of research. References to essential Church documents—such as papal encyclicals, the writings of Vatican I and Trent, and the writings of the saints—appear on mouseover and link to those texts in your library. When you’re ready to create a bibliography, Logos remembers what you’ve been reading, and cites your sources in your chosen style at the click of a mouse.
