Top Highlights

“The Book of Proverbs says that ‘the Lord reproves him whom he loves’ (3:12). This is repeated in the Letter to the Hebrews (12:6), and we know that Jesus, along with His Blessed Mother, suffered the worst kind of cruelty and injustice.” (Page 8)

“Christianity and Judaism teach that murder, adultery, and other moral evils come not from God but from man, who, by virtue of the awesome gift of free will, can thwart the designs of Omnipotence.” (Page 6)

“Pain, when it rubs against character, acts as a sharpener” (Page 35)

“I am trying to make the point that pain, in the eyes of the saint, is not something to be feared or avoided. Rather, it is a tool that with proper use can bring us closer to God. When St. Andrew beheld the instrument of his crucifixion, he wept for joy at the thought of literally taking up his cross and following Christ. St. Rita of Cascia asked the Lord to let her feel the tip of a thorn so that she might share in the pain of Calvary, and the favor was granted.” (Pages 4–5)

“If we place our trust in God, we too can ride out life’s difficulties knowing that, down the line, we have a bright future.” (Page 8)
