Digital Verbum Edition
In Refuting the Attack on Mary, Father Mateo uses Scripture and the writings of the Church Fathers to answer questions regarding Catholic beliefs about Mary. Why is she believed to be immaculately conceived? Was she assumed into heaven? Why is she called the Mother of God? Are Catholic teachings on Mary unbiblical? In his response to these and other questions, Father Mateo points out the errors of logic and fact committed by many anti-Catholics. Remarkably concise, this work powerfully explains how to defend Marian doctrine. After reading it, you will be fully equipped to defend the truth of Catholic teaching.

Father Mateo was the pen name of a Catholic priest who was an emeritus professor of New Testament Greek at a prominent university. He spent nearly 50 years of his priesthood promoting the faith, especially among young people. Not content to work only in the classroom, from 1987 to his death in 1996, Father Mateo hosted the “Ask Father” forum on the Catholic Information Network.
