Despite our love for the Bible, emphasis on the cross, and passion for evangelism, many evangelicals ironically neglect that which is central to the gospel. In our preaching, teaching, and witnessing, we often separate salvation from the Savior. Looking to the Scriptures and church history, Marcus Johnson reveals the true riches of our salvation by reintroducing us to the foundation of our redemption—our mysterious union with the living Christ.
“‘[T]he majority of Christians much more frequently think of Christ as a Savior outside of them, than as a Savior who dwells within.’” (Page 28)
“To be in union with Christ is to experience all that he is to us in the utter fullness of his saving person.” (Page 118)
“in Calvin’s words, the peril of seeking ‘in Christ something else than Christ himself.’” (Page 16)
“Trying to separate justification from sanctification” (Page 122)
“This union is likened to that of a building and its cornerstone (Eph. 2:20–22), a vine and its branches (John 15:1–8), the members of a human body and its head (Eph. 1:22–23; 1 Cor. 12:12), and the union between husband and wife (Eph. 5:31–32; 2 Cor. 11:2).” (Page 41)
