Overview

This Bible uses simple everyday language and vocabulary shared by everyone regardless of age or background. The "dynamic equivalence" in translation communicates the meaning and style of the original in a unique way. Also known as Today's English Version.

Most Highlighted Verses in The Good News Translation

Proverbs 20:30: Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways.

Proverbs 28:13: You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you.

Proverbs 29:25: It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe.

Micah 6:8: No, the Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.

Ephesians 2:7–10: He did this to demonstrate for all time to come the extraordinary greatness of his grace in the love he showed us in Christ Jesus. For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s gift, so that no one can boast about it.

Philippians 1:6: And so I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4–9: May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice! Show a gentle attitude towards everyone. The Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart.

2 Timothy 1:7: For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, his Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control.

Hebrews 11:6: No one can please God without faith, for whoever comes to God must have faith that God exists and rewards those who seek him.

1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out all fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment.

The Good News Translation is my preferred version of the Bible, but I noticed something odd about this specific edition of the Good News bible in Ruth chapter 2: The "grain" that Ruth is gleaning is repeatedly called "corn" in this edition. All of the print editions of the Good News bible and also a different electronic edition (in a different Bible app) all say "grain" and not "corn". Makes me wonder which edition this really is? Not a big deal I suppose, but it makes me wonder what else is not quite right about this GNT edition... Maybe this is an English version that's not the "American" English I'm more familiar with, perhaps?
