Overview

In the midst of our Christmas card sending and holiday vending, we may too easily forget that all the hoopla began as the celebration of the birth of a king, Jesus Christ. God’s ultimate gift to us, he is the original, and only truly meaningful, “reason for the season.” This classic study brings the reader through the Old Testament, showing how each generation anticipated the promised Messiah.

In the Logos edition, this volume is enhanced by amazing functionality. Scripture citations link directly to English translations, and important terms link to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a wealth of other resources in your digital library. Top Highlights

“Tenderheartednesses and compassions are acts of love and kindness. They involve the tangible meeting of needs, the willingness to become constructively involved in the lives of others. Combined, these qualities explain the reasons we band together in a church body, and, if missing from a congregation, their loss can strike a death blow to the life of a church.” (Page 77)

Don has a unique gift of writing Bible exposition accurately in a style which is enjoyable to read and helpful to teach. This book fits Sunday School, Bible study, family devotions, and personal worship. I am encouraged to see this long-overdue theme in print.

Whilst this book has a marvellous collection of verses, and it seemed to start off pretty good, I found that the Author just didn't seem to inspire me they way he intended. To me, he often seemed to take his interpretations and illustrations as given facts, without any explanation. Whilst that can often be acceptable in a Sermon (given the time frame, etc), I find this a bit off putting in a book. He also just presents a Premillennial viewpoint as being on the same level as the First Coming of Christ - given that I lean more to an Amillennial viewpoint, needless to say I find that a tad arrogant, especially when it comes to a book about Christmas / the Incarnation! I am sure many will thoroughly enjoy this small book, but I found myself too often "arguing" with the Author, which I found to be a problem in a book that was more devotional in its outlook.
