Study the sacramental action that joins individuals into an intimate union with Jesus. Catechetical expert Richard J. Reichert delves into the Catholic understanding of the sacrament of Baptism, how it unites us with the Church and lays the foundation for Christian spiritual life.
Richard J. Reichert has served as a director of religious education and as a diocesan consultant for the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin. He served on the editorial board of Living Light and on the executive board of the National Conference of Catechetical Leadership. He has authored over 60 student catechetical texts and manuals, as well as over 10 monographs related to catechesis, such as Renewing Catechetical Ministry. He received the National Youth Ministry Award from NFCYM and NCCL’s National Catechetical Award in 1999.
Explore the history and development of each of the three sacraments of initiation—baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist—and draw upon the biblical foundations of each sacrament. Based firmly in the teaching of the Church, this book is mindful of the contemporary reader and the issues that confront the Church today in celebrating and living these three rites of initiation.
Each chapter has questions for reflection and further discussion. Ideal for adult-education programs and small groups, Walking in Newness of Life offers an insightful combination of the theology and spirituality of the sacraments of initiation presented in a most accessible way.
Robert Sargent has a PhD in sacred theology and teaches in the dioceses of Fort Worth and Dallas, and at the University of Dallas, Texas. He has written numerous books, as well as articles for various journals, including Emmanuel, Spiritual Life, and The Priest.
