Overview

Whether history or legend, the tale of Martin Luther’s Christmas Tree is a heart-warming story about how Luther used Christmas trees to illuminate the way Christ brought God’s light into the world. This exceedingly rare and beloved tale recounts Martin Luther’s life and teaches children about the Christmas heritage purported to derive from Luther. Germany forms the background for many of the West’s perceptions of Christmas and this little book brings them to life with warmth and joy.

Don’t miss the other two volumes in Theophilus Stork’s Luther trilogy, Luther and the Bible and Luther at Home.

It is my understanding that this book was designed to be read to children, and though written almost a hundred years before I was born, there was a sense of nostalgia as I read this. A bit reminiscent of the Children's Bible Stories and Children's Hero stories of my childhood. Like those there does appear to be some fiction mixed in with history - no different to the historical fiction novels of today - and the Author does not appear to be hiding this. His intent appears to be to inspire the imagination in the young person who hears this story, with one of the aims being that they learn more about Luther when older. The chapter covering the loss of Luther's daughter Magdalen (which really happened) was quite moving and well presented. An easy read, and not just for kids :)

Eight chapters of summarized Luther history and one chapter of Christmas Tree. Bought on CP for $1, not much more value than that.
