Verbum Advanced Homiletics Training

Verbum's Advanced Homiletics Training is based on Verbum 7, and in some places the layout of Verbum 8 will not match perfectly.

Verbum’s Advanced Homiletics Training builds on the Verbum 360 Training videos by taking a deeper look at homiletic application of the software. But you don’t have to be giving a homily to learn a lot from these videos. Fr. Devin Roza, LC, is visiting Professor of New Testament at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, and Fr. Andrew Dalton, LC, is Professor assistant of New Testament at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. They guide you through the tools and process they use to prepare their own homilies.

You’ll learn advanced techniques for studying Scripture in the context of the Church’s Liturgy. Why do these readings occur on the same day? What is the core message of the Bible text? What have Church Fathers said about this passage? By the time you finish this video, you’ll be excited to study the daily readings whether you need to write a homily or not.

      • An introduction to tools that will make homily preparation much more efficient, so your daily homilies can be more powerful in less time.
  • Pray
    • Prayer Phase
      • The prayer phase is spent carefully reading the primary texts. We’ll look at methods for gleaning new insights, and share some recommendations for remaining focused on what you’re reading.
  • Probe
    • Consultative Phase
      • This is where Verbum really shines. The consultative phase is where we start “discussing” our readings with others. We can pull in commentaries, Saints and Church Fathers, and even other Bible passages. This is where we answer questions, and start to really uncover the core message we want to share.
    • Drafting Phase
      • In the drafting phase, we’ll finally start writing our homily. We’re not going to force you to write in Verbum, and we’ll show you some tricks to make Verbum helpful even here.
    • Revision Phase
      • The revision phase gives you one more chance to revise, investigate important points, and build out the final draft of your homily.
    • Archiving Phase
      • You don’t want to have to start from scratch every time! The archiving page will show you how to integrate your work into Verbum, so next time you’re “discussing a passage with the saints and Church Fathers, you can see your previous insights as well – right in the software.

Nice idea, but the videos are dated and very frustrating to follow. They show one thing on the screen, but in the current version of Verbum, it is completely different and hard to follow.
